Apple Tasting and Homemade Applesauce!
Posted 11/16/23Wetzel County, WV - Miss Amanda, preschool teacher, Martyn Early Learning Center @ Short Line School, shares that the children took part in apple tasting and making homemade applesauce! The students are currently working through the the tree study (Creative Curriculum), and are focusing on apples this month since mostly everyone in class enjoys them so much. They tried 4 different apple slices: red, green, yellow, and pink. While tasting them, the conversation included the texture and taste, and comparing them to each other. The children colored a paper deciding if they liked the apples, and even charted their favorite apple. After lunch, they made applesauce with 2 more different types of apples. After discussion and review of safety practices in the kitchen, they counted all the apples and Miss Amanda cut all the apples. The children helped her measure and scoop up the brown sugar and cinnamon needed. Then the kiddos enjoyed their applesauce recipe so much, they said to Miss Amanda that she needed to make more today so they could have it for breakfast!
